We are thrilled to have you here! 


Your first weekend on campus will be memorable and it will create a strong foundation for your time at Dakota Wesleyan.

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. New students move and settle in
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Finalization in Rollins Campus Center
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. IT Support in Smith 120  (located in Smith Hall)
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bookstore opens – pick up your books and DWU gear (McGovern Library)
2:59 p.m. Prize giveaway in the Sherman Center – must be present to win!
3 p.m. Welcome session for ALL new students and families in the Sherman Center
4 p.m. NSO group assignments in Sherman; Families go to Patten-Wing Theatre (within Hughes Science Hall – second floor)
5 p.m. Picnic on the Plaza for students and families (located on Jackson Plaza, outside of Rollins)
6 p.m. Parents depart
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. New Student Orientation (NSO) activities
8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bowling at Village Bowl (free)

Saturday, August 25, 2012
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Freshman student move-in.  If you’re going to move into a dorm, now is the time to do it!  Moving crews will be in the Dayton loop from 9 a.m. to noon ready to carry in everything you’ve worked for a week to pack.  Just pull up to the front door and we’ll do the rest.  Report to the Dayton Hall loop for your key. If you come after that time, please call the residence life hotline at (605) 770-1593 and we will meet you in Dayton Hall to give you your key. While nothing will ever be the same as home, your dorm will be more comfortable if you settle in and make your space your own. 
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transfer student move-in.  Report to Allen Hall to check into your room.  If you come after that time, please call the residence life hotline at (605) 770-1593 and we will meet you in Allen Hall to give you your key.
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Finalization.  All students must complete finalization in the Rollins Campus Center prior to the beginning of classes.  We will have your student ID, ask you to confirm your contact information, your medical requirements and your classes, and wrap up your financial arrangements with the university.  Complete your vehicle registration before you get here and your ID tag will be in your mailbox waiting for you.  www.dwu.edu/studentlife/parking
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All settled in?  The bookstore is open, and IT support is available in Smith 120.  Time to buy your books and get some DWU swag!  The Campus Bookstore is located within the McGovern Library. If you would like help getting your personal electronics on the network or with using your DWU login, come to the computer lab in Smith Hall for expert assistance.  Don’t wait to get connected.  Test it today!
Lunch Lunch on your own.  Weston Food Court opens at 11 a.m., or see what Mitchell has to offer (and try out your DWU student discounts!)  Mitchell merchants and restaurants welcome you!
2:59 p.m. Prize giveaway – must be present to win!!
3 p.m. Welcome session for ALL new students and families.  Even if you’re a fall sport athlete and you’ve been on campus for a while, you’ll need to be here.  Families, whether you came to a registration day or not, you’re invited to come to this session, too.  Meet the student life staff, meet our president and our campus leadership. 
4 p.m. Meet your group!  Students will meet their NSO groups, and families will meet other families.  Students stay in Sherman, families will head over to the Patten-Wing Theatre.
5 p.m. Picnic on the Plaza.  Enjoy your first official meal on campus by gathering on Jackson Plaza for a picnic. 
6 p.m. Parents depart.  It’s time! 
6 p.m. NSO Activities.  Now’s the time to jump in and really start experiencing college life.  Don’t miss a minute!
8 to 10 p.m. Bowling.  Gather with your NSO group and carpool to the Village Bowl for free bowling.  If you’re wearing flip flops now, remember to bring socks for those always-stylish bowling shoes. 
10:15 p.m.

Dayton residents – special meeting in the Sherman Center.  You can’t miss this.

Floor meetings to follow. Get to know your Resident Assistant (RA) and the other residents on your floor.  Be sure to attend this fact-filled meeting.

10 a.m. All-College Church in the Sherman Center.  Chapel attendance is encouraged.  It’s a contemporary service geared toward YOU.  Come dressed to go right to the food drive after lunch – orientation T-shirts and shorts.  The First United Methodist Church members will be collaborating with us on this service, and all faculty will be there in their regalia.  It’s a service you won’t want to miss.
11 a.m. Lunch in Weston Food Court with your academic adviser.  Check your course schedule for the name of your adviser – if you don’t know who it is, we’ll help you find the right table!  Dine with your advisor and maybe even his or her family.  Get acquainted over food!  Lunch is sponsored by First United Methodist Church.
Noon Food drive for the Mitchell Food Pantry.  Gather in Weston Food Court.  This service learning project is part of LearnStrong 101.  You’ll find out what the follow-up assignment is in your LST 101 class this week.  Oh – and it’s a great way to explore Mitchell and introduce yourself to your new community!
3 to 5 p.m. All-campus swimming at Mitchell Aquatic Center, Hitchcock Park.  Meet the rest of the DWU student body.  Everyone is invited to the pool to celebrate the beginning of the academic year. It’s free!

5 to ? All-campus dinner.  Relax at the park, meet some upper classmen, and take one last break before classes start.  Try out the inflatables – if you’ve never dared before, there’s no time like the present!
