Financial Aid for Undergraduate Students

DWU annually awards more than $6 million in academic and performance scholarships...

  • Ninety-nine percent of DWU students receive financial aid.
  • Students who apply and are accepted for admission will be considered for academic scholarships based on their high school GPA and standardized testing scores (ACT/SAT).
  • College transfer students are also eligible for scholarships based on previous college GPA.

Scholarship Opportunities at DWU

Dakota Wesleyan University has been selecting Randall Scholars for more than 25 years. The highest academic award given at DWU, Randall Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to academically successful high school seniors who display a strong talent for leadership and service. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and 24 ACT or 1090 SAT to compete for a Randall Scholarship. A current leadership resume must be submitted before Jan. 18; attendance at Randall Scholarship Day is required, and a personal interview will be conducted. A limited number of Randall Scholars are named each year. Those successful in achieving Randall Scholar status will receive additional awards and the option of a book stipend or credit toward a Wesleyan-sponsored study abroad experience. A luncheon honoring all participants and their families will close the program Friday afternoon.

Presidential Scholarship Day is designed for accepted high school seniors who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and 21 ACT or 980 SAT score. The day is designed to provide participants the opportunity to further investigate Wesleyan’s academic and cocurricular programs. Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet personally with faculty, staff and students, as well as attend information sessions about our three colleges, our distinctive Center for Talent Development, athletics and student life. A luncheon honoring all Presidential Scholars and their families will close the program Monday afternoon. A current leadership resume must be submitted by Feb. 17.

These awards range from $4,000- $12,000 based on previous academic performance.


Dakota Wesleyan University recognizes the importance of our United Methodist heritage and offers eligible students scholarships of $1,000 per year, based on church membership and involvement.

  • Bishop Leadership Award
    An award of $14,000 per year is available to a United Methodist student who demonstrates strong commitment to youth leadership in their local church and pledges to be active in student ministry at DWU. Student must be a member of a United Methodist Church, have a 3.0 GPA and 21 ACT. Visit with an admissions counselor for specific details and application material.

Awards are determined by coach or director, and audition or other assessment may be required in order to determine the student’s award. Please visit with the respective coach or director.

Scholarships and awards are offered to full-time students, and most scholarships or awards are renewable for up to 10 semesters. Most Dakota Wesleyan University students complete their schooling in eight semesters.

Any student receiving a minimum of $12,000 in institutional aid is required to live on campus.
First-time freshman scholarships or awards may be increased if the student’s GPA or ACT/SAT score increases before March 1 of the student’s senior year. Questions can be directed to the admissions office.
Institutional aid (scholarships, awards and grants) may not exceed the cost of tuition at Dakota Wesleyan University in any given year.
Scholarship money awarded to new students attending the Huron Campus will not exceed $12,000 in any given year
