Honors Program HOMEPAGE

DWU Honors Program

The DWU Honors Program provides highly motivated students with experiences designed to expand their personal, academic, creative and professional horizons by developing their interpersonal and intellectual excellence to become leaders within the DWU learning community. The university offers research opportunities and other special programs to members of the honors program.

Mission
The honors program is designed for the creative and academically committed student who wants an intense intellectual challenge and is prepared to invest the effort required to successfully complete the program. Through unique courses and meaningful projects, each student enters into multiple opportunities for personal growth, professional development, service and leadership. The honor student hones the intellect to use this talent toward the responsible advancement of human knowledge and strives toward mastery of the self, while serving others.

Goals
The successful DWU Honors student will demonstrate collaborative and leadership skills, provide service to others, evaluate his or her intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth, and create examples of effective expression.

Program admission and requirements
An incoming freshman with an ACT score of 25 or higher may apply for the honors program.  Students interested in participating in the program who have completed at least one year of college and maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 each semester may also apply and be considered for admission. Students should consult with their adviser about enrollment in the honors program. Students in the honors program must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5; those who complete all program requirements will be recognized in the Commencement program.

Honors courses in various disciplines are offered each semester.  Participants will complete nine honors credits while at DWU. During their senior year, students prepare a portfolio and a senior project, which is presented to members of the faculty.
