Broadway comes to Mitchell via DWU band, Choral Union

MITCHELL – A little bit of Broadway will make its way to Mitchell this month courtesy Dakota Wesleyan University’s band and Choral Union.

This will be the first concert by the DWU Choral Union – a community choir that has both DWU and community members – without the Wesleyan Choir joining. A “Salute to Broadway” will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Sherman Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Music selections will feature band pieces from excerpts and medleys from Broadway shows and choral pieces that range from “It’s a Grand Night for Singing,” by Rodgers and Hammerstein, to Les Miserables’ “One More Day.” In addition, several community members will sing solo Broadway tunes.

“I am excited to have the Choral Union sing a concert on their own,” said Dr. Clint Desmond, DWU choral director. “This is one step toward regaining some of the community involvement that the now defunct Dakota Chorale had. The music is lighter for this concert, but I like to have a more ‘pops-style’ concert in the midst of dreary winter.”
