DWU’s Halloween food drive brings in 347 pounds
MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University students trick-or-treated around Mitchell Wednesday, collecting 347 pounds of food items for the Salvation Army Food Pantry.
DWU students in the Student Activities Board, Universities Fighting World Hunger and Students in Free Enterprise volunteered to go door-to-door and ask for canned goods and other non-perishables to donate to the food pantry.
“I think it is extremely important to give back to the Mitchell community. Our community does so much, not only for DWU, but other organizations as well,” said Kayla Summerville, of Platte, a sophomore human services major at DWU. “Trick-or-treating for canned goods was a blast. It gives you an excuse to be a kid again – we dressed up in costumes, collected lot of cans, and even got a little candy.”
