DWU homecoming royalty crowned

Josh Thompson, of Lead, and Yutzil Rodriguez, of Pierre, were crowned homecoming king and queen Sunday at Dakota Wesleyan University’s 2012 Blue & White Days Coronation.

MITCHELL – Josh Thompson and Yutzil Rodriguez were crowned homecoming king and queen Sunday at Dakota Wesleyan University’s 2012 Blue & White Days Coronation.

Rodriguez, of Pierre, is majoring in human services with a Spanish minor. She is involved in the Student Activities Board, Human Services Group, and DWU women’s soccer, and Zumba. She is the daughter of Sidney and Elizabeth Zanin and a graduate of T.F Riggs High School.

Thompson, of Lead, is a biology major with a coaching minor. He is involved in DWU football, and is the treasurer of Student Ministry Council and is a resident assistant. He has also worked on service projects for the Abbott House and H.O.P.E. Project, as well as a DWU mission trip to New Orleans. He is the son of Paul and Karmen Thompson and a graduate of Lead-Deadwood High School.

Other candidates for homecoming queen were: Natia DeGeest, Plankinton; Liz Lamb, Onida; Leah Miiller, Corsica; and Stephanie Teel, Stickney. Other homecoming king candidates were: Matthew Dykstra, Avon; Chris Ferera, Riverside, Calif.; Alex Hinz, Littleton, Colo.;  and Josh Wagner, Platte.

The homecoming king and queen will participate in various activities during the week, including the 10:30 a.m. Blue & White Days parade on Saturday, Oct. 6. The homecoming football game will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joe Quintal Field.  DWU will play Dordt College.
