King, queen candidates named for DWU homecoming

MITCHELL – Candidates for homecoming king and queen have been selected at Dakota Wesleyan University. 

Coronation will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Sherman Center.  The theme for this year’s homecoming is “Apocalypse 2012.”

Homecoming queen candidates are:

 

Natia DeGeest, Plankinton. DeGeest is an elementary education major. She is involved in Future Teachers Organization, Phi Kappa Phi, and participates in intramural sports on campus. She is the daughter of Dennis and Kitti DeGeest and a graduate of Plankinton High School. She plans to teach and coach after college.

Liz Lamb, Onida. Lamb is double majoring in accounting and criminal justice. She is involved in DWU women’s basketball; the student newspaper, The Phreno Cosmian, and serves as a TRiO peer mentor. She is the daughter of Jamie and Susan Lamb and a graduate of Sully Buttes High School. She plans to attend graduate school and work toward a master’s degree in accounting.
Leah Miiller, Corsica. Miiller is a biochemistry major and psychology minor. She is involved in Student Activities Board, CHAOS (science club), New Student Orientation and Psychology Club. She is also a student ambassador, TRiO tutor, StudyStrong tutor, is the senior class president and has participated in a SD BRIN research fellowship, as well as many service projects. She is the daughter of Rod Miiller and Vanessa Miiller and a graduate of Corsica Public School. She plans to pursue a medical degree at the University of South Dakota and become a family practitioner, or obtain a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences with an emphasis in neuroscience and become a professor.
Yutzil Rodriguez, Pierre. Rodriguez is majoring in human services with a Spanish minor. She is involved in the Student Activities Board, Human Services Group, and DWU women’s soccer, and Zumba. She is the daughter of Sidney and Elizabeth Zanin and a graduate of T.F Riggs High School.
Stephanie Teel, Stickney. Teel is a biology education major. She is involved in Wesleyan Choir and the honor choir, the Highlanders; CHAOS (science club); Future Teachers Organization; Campus Worship Team; College Republicans; and serves as a tutor. She is the daughter of Allen and Angie Teel and a graduate of Stickney Public School. She plans to teach high school biology after college, and remain active in her church.

 

Homecoming king candidates are:

 

Matthew Dykstra, Avon. Dykstra is an elementary education major. He is a former member of DWU basketball and baseball; and also plays softball and flag football. He is the son of Beth and Steve Dykstra and a graduate of Avon Public School. His plans after college are to work toward his master’s degree in administration.
Chris Ferera, Riverside, Calif. Ferera is a history major with a double minor in political science and theatre. He is involved in DWU football, theatre, Student Senate, and residence life. He is the son of Debbie and Chris Ferera and a graduate of La Sierra High School. His plans for after college are to attend graduate school and potentially travel abroad.
Alex Hinz, Littleton, Colo. Hinz is majoring in sports management and pre-law and minoring in business, coaching and legal studies. He is involved in DWU baseball, New Student Orientation, Student Senate, and is also a Student Ambassador. He is the son of Michelle and David Hinz and a graduate of Heritage High School. After college he plans to attend law school for sports law, pursuing a dream to become a professional sports agent.
Josh Thompson, Lead. Thompson is a biology major with a coaching minor. He is involved in DWU football, and is the treasurer of Student Ministry Council and is a resident assistant. He has also worked on service projects for the Abbott House and H.O.P.E. Project, as well as a DWU mission trip to New Orleans. He is the son of Paul and Karmen Thompson and a graduate of Lead-Deadwood High School.
Josh Wagner, Platte. Wagner is a human services major with a coaching minor. He is involved in DWU baseball. He is the son of Monte and Kristi Wagner and a graduate of Platte-Geddes High School. His plans after college are to work for Child Protection Services.
