DWU’s homecoming theme announced, parade entries encouraged
MITCHELL — It’s the end of days – but peppier.
Dakota Wesleyan University has announced “Apocalypse 2012” as its homecoming theme for this year’s Blue & White Days parade and is now accepting registrations.
The parade will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, on Mitchell’s Main Street.
“We got the idea because the Mayan calendar’s prediction that 2012 was supposed to be the end of the world,” said Nathan Hofer, director of student activities and resident director at DWU. “Also, zombies and post-apocalyptic themes are super popular so we know people will have a good time with costumes – even if their interpretation is ‘Zombieland’ or a world run by man-eating plants.”
That movie reference would be “Day of the Triffids.”
The DWU theatre department has been planning all summer and already began on its post-apocalyptic “mode of transportation” this past Sunday. Will it be Nirvana or possibly more akin to “Mad Max” – stay tuned.
Businesses, clubs and high school bands are welcome to register their float or entry for the parade by downloading the registration documents at http://dwusab.weebly.com and email them to Hofer at either email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. For questions, contact Hofer at 605-995-2943.
Homecoming T-shirts will also go on sale homecoming week, beginning Sept. 24, in the Rollins Campus Center lobby. Each T-shirt is $10.
