DWU students receive awards at NSASD
MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University nursing students attended the Nursing Student Association of South Dakota convention in Aberdeen recently. One DWU student won a prestigious award while she and two others were named to the 2013 state board.
Sara Deinert, a Bachelor of Science nursing student from Mount Vernon, won the Naoma Jackson Nursing Student Leadership and Action Award, which is given in memory of Naoma Jackson, a nursing student who was fatally injured while a student nurse. Deinert entered a 500-word essay that garnered her the award which is given to a nursing student who has strong leadership and educational goals and is dedicated to overcoming obstacles in order to become a nurse. This is the second year in a row that a DWU student has been honored this award.
Also, three DWU students will serve on the state board next year: first vice president, Renee Schroeder, Alexandria; Community Health chairman, Deinert; and Resolutions chairman, Alexis Reiners, Hurley.
Jonilyn Rinehart, Freeman, represented DWU as the outstanding nursing student candidate.
