DWU Choral Union welcomes community members
MITCHELL — The DWU Choral Union returns for another semester, seeking singers for the group’s most ambitious concert to date.
The Choral Union will rehearse and perform the monumental “Brahms Requiem” this April and is looking for singers to perform Brahms’s most famous piece.
The Choral Union is a community choir of the greater Mitchell area consisting of DWU students, faculty and staff members and Mitchell-area community members of high school age and above.
“This work, which the choir will perform in an English translation, is one of the most beautiful choral pieces ever composed,” said DWU choral director, Dr. Clint Desmond. “A masterpiece of the Romantic era, Brahms’s opus is composed for large choir, soloists and full symphony orchestra. We are very pleased to announce that LyricWood (DWU’s strings ensemble) will be supplemented with many prominent wind and brass players from around the state and across the Midwest.”
Rehearsals begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Smith Hall, room 211, and will meet weekly. The “Brahms Requiem” concert will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 21, in the Sherman Center on campus and will be free and open to the public.
Membership to the DWU Choral Union is open to any singer high school age or older and there is no audition. Singers will be asked to purchase the Hinshaw score at the first rehearsal for $8. Rehearsals will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays in Smith Hall on campus, room 211. Those interested in the DWU Choral Union may contact Dr. Clint Desmond at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 995-2676 by Jan. 21.
