2013 winners of the Agnes Hyde Writing Contest announced

MITCHELL — The winners of this year’s Agnes Hyde Writing Contest at Dakota Wesleyan University have been announced.

The following is a list of the winners of this year’s literary contest.

Fiction
First place, Sam Sandau, of Tripp, “And Then There Were Two”
Second place, Lexy Timm, of Yale, “Conscience Comes Alive”
Third place, Sterling Hubbard, of Jamestown, N.D., “Tears from Those Left Behind”

Poetry
First place, Timm, “Forever Strong”
Second place, Emily George, of Woonsocket, “No Anything”
Third place, Amber Hiles, of Woonsocket, “The Fall and the Rise”

Essay
First place, Lydia Ymker, of Armour, “Giving Back”
Second place, Kira Stammer, of Mitchell, “Wintergirls”
Third place, Kayla Geraets-Majercik, of Mitchell, “A Surprising Pain”

The Agnes Hyde Writing Contest was founded in 1985 by Joe Ditta, English professor at DWU from 1983-2012) and its namesake was a 1924 Dakota Wesleyan alumna and English professor at DWU from 1946 to 1951.
