the provost oversees enrollment, information technology, library services, student life and athletics.

Amy Novak has been provost and executive vice president at Dakota Wesleyan University since August 2008. Before stepping into this position, Provost Novak served as DWU’s vice president for enrollment management; dean of enrollment and retention; and director of the Student Support Services grant. Her current areas of responsibility include academics, library services, information technology, enrollment management, student services, campus ministry, athletics, financial aid, advising and the registrar. Novak received a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind., a Master of Science in economics from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and she is completing her doctorate in educational leadership from Creighton University. Her diverse background includes providing management consulting services for multinational corporations in the U.S. and abroad, leading federal grants to integrate applied technical skills into the K-12 curriculum, teaching communications courses, conducting market research analysis for nonprofit agencies and churches, and supporting a variety of nonprofit initiatives ranging from support of mentally ill women to new immigrant services. Novak is passionate about helping students discover how to unleash their talents in service to God and humanity.

Passionate about her faith, Novak remains focused on integrating the discussion of faith, values and ethics into the classroom and helping others discover God’s presence in their lives. In addition to teaching courses in entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, Novak routinely advises students and meets with parents and students to discuss their intellectual, spiritual and emotional growth.

The mother of eight children born on three continents, Amy and her husband, Ken, are active members of their faith community and are involved in sharing the beauty and depth of their faith both with their own children and with countless others at the elementary and high school levels.

Novak has presented on a variety of topics including marketing in higher education, online learning and leadership as a chief academic officer. In addition, she has been a speaker for the Avera Women’s Health Symposium, the Mitchell Area Safehouse, Women in Blue Jeans Conference, as well as other regional conferences and retreats. This March, Amy will be the featured speaker at the 2013 Eastern South Dakota Women’s Lenten Retreat.

Emily George has been the administrative assistant in the academic affairs office since 2006 after she and her husband moved to South Dakota from Pennsylvania. Her duties as administrative assistant include supporting the provost as well as faculty. Her additional responsibilities include associate registrar and assistant international student adviser.

Emily and her husband reside in Woonsocket with their dog Pepper, where they grow aronia berry bushes. Emily is active in the community as treasurer of Woonsocket Township, member of the Woonsocket Community Club and treasurer of the Huron Heartland Garden Club.
