Welcome to the TRiO Learning Lab. The TRiO Learning Lab is an energetic environment for learning. Students learn from each other and help each other succeed. At all times the Learning Lab will be staffed with Learning Lab Assistants; certified peer tutors who excel in English, Math, and Science. Learning Lab Assistants are College Reading and Learning Association trained. The Learning Lab Assistants are there to help students become active independent learners.
The Learning Lab still offers the services of a Writing Center. For writing assistance, bring in proofread papers and the English Learning Lab assistant will review the paper for grammar, and citing corrections/suggestions. Learning Lab Assistants will help students discuss topics, suggest approaches, guide/focus the writing, emphasize research and documentation for various levels of writing, and generally work with students who have ideas but need help to express them clearly. After edits have been made the assistant can do a final proofreading of the paper.
The Learning Lab can also be used by TRiO participants for study groups prior to exams. Setup an appointment with the specific Learning Lab Assistant and he or she will work with the group toward success.
No appointment is required to visit the Learning Lab. Study aids, laptops, and some reference materials will be available for student use in the Learning Lab.
The hours of operation will be Monday from 7:00-9:00PM, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00-2:00 PM.
The Learning Lab can be found in McGovern Library, Rm 221.
Traditional peer tutoring is still available to learners who request these services from a TRiO Success Advisor. Please see the TRiO website or ask your TRiO success advisors for a fall 2012 peer tutor schedule.
